Day 28 - The last hurrah

Surprisingly I felt slightly better this morning. I still had a fever and would get the chills and start shivering as well. But I wasn't quite ready to kick the bucket. We got up and headed downstairs for breakfast. Without even needing to discuss, we went straight back to the crepe place around the corner from us for tea and our usual crepes.

Throat saving Tea

Turkey, tomato and cheese crepe

As I am sitting there, Moishii heads inside the cafe to pay the bill. This is when I notice this guy sitting a few meters away from me and filming me. Everytime I look over, he turns the camera away and pretends not to look at me. When Moishii comes out, I told him about the guy, and even he noticed that the guy was filming me.

Looking at him, we deduced that he's a french pornography director and I'm going to find my head superimposed onto some porno one day. Meanwhile, for anyone that has watched "Everybody loves Raymond", is this Deborah's mum?????

Since this is our last full day in Mykonos. It was time to overdose. The purpose of today is to hunt down as many locals as we can. And boy did we do that.

The constipated woman

Crazy hat woman without her hat

Random woman that cracked us up

The fashionable homeless

Hat Christine

We used to get Mex Cafe Christine and Hat Christine mixed up. The hat threw us off and used to confuse us. But now we have a photo to distinguish them apart!

After our exhausting lap around Mykonos and hunting down the locals, we had a quick break at Mex Cafe. Considering we just made it out of our death beds, we settled for a nice big mug of tea instead.

I also decided to run back to the apartment to get my SLR. If its my last day in Mykonos, I need the right gear to capture everything. When I got back, there were a few random guys sitting next to Moishii. Apparently it was Moishii's workmate Pauly G, who happened to be in Mykonos at the same time and they bumped into each other. The scary thing is, we found out when we got back to Sydney that PG had spent about $20k at Mykonos alone! LIKE WTF? I know we complain that euros are expensive, but WTF COULD YOU POSSIBLY SPEND ON IN MYKONOS???

After our tea, we did a few more laps before calling it quits. We headed back to the apartment for the long climb up the stairs. Could be worse, our stairs could look like this:

The minute we got back, it was packing time. Not before Moishii noticing that his clothes have been blown off the clothesline. So he spent the next 5 minutes gathering his stuff together only to find a shirt missing. Luckily Local Christine was watching him and ratted out our neighbour for stealing the shirt. Moishii had to pound on the door to make the guy give him his shirt back.

So back to packing. We were leaving tomorrow, and the last thing I want to do is to rush packing tomorrow morning and leave something behind. Now I always wondered why Moishii's luggage is so damn heavy and took him soooo long to unpack and repack. Now I know why. Sorting THIS out would take an hour alone!

When we got up after our Siesta, we got changed and ready for our last night in Mykonos. We decided to go back to the Baked Lamb and pasta restaurant for one more meal. We decided not to get a salad and settled for a veggie soup each.

Veggie Soup

Baked lamb and pasta

Now, we had been complaining that this restaurant never gives us any freebies. We see all the tables around us getting free alcohol and ice cream whilst we got nothing. This was what started our whole "must get freebie" thing. This time, they actually gave us free ice cream, except we were both too sick to eat it!!@#%@#%

After paying for the bill, we started doing laps again and even found Petros! We thought he had died!

As we're walking, I suddenly turned to Moishii and screamed we had to get back to our apartment. Like RIGHT NOW. I think he must've noticed me go a bit green in the face, so we stepped on it and ran back to the apartment. I barely made it through the door when my dinner came back up. God damnit! Those green pills they sold be are bloody strong! Next thing you know, it was Moishii's turn to contribute to the toilet. This reminds me of the whole Santorini to Mykonos Jetcat ride. The symphony orchestra of vomit.

We decided to jump back into bed and relax a bit before going out. What better way than to watch Je T'aime. They had a guy get on to sing a song called "Shish Kebab". Basically, the lyrics went "Shish kebab kebab. Shish kebab kebab". Then they had someone carving a shish kebab! haha

They also had a hot chick sing for us.......

15mins into the show, I turned around and found Moishii passed out in bed. There was no way he was waking up. You can dunk him into a toilet bowl and he wasn't waking up. I decided to take a walk around town and enjoy the last of the night life before calling it quits. This is our one and only night that we did not go into Scandinavian Bar. I also did some last minute shopping which involved getting an authentic Greek Cookbook! I eventually collapsed into bed around 2am.

Day 27 - Mykonos - Hitting rock bottom

I'm pretty sure the aircon is on. Yet why am I sweating like I've just run a marathon. Oh thats right, I've got a frickin fever. My throat is on fire and my head is throbbing. Looks like the Mykonos curse is at it again. I ALWAYS get sick after the 3rd night. ALWAYS. We didn't get out of bed until about 3pm. And even then, it was a real struggle to even go out. The only reason we went out is for food and liquid. We made it literally around the corner and plonked ourselves down at the first place we saw. Looks like its crepes for us, which is a good thing because my throat is so swollen I can barely swallow anything.

Turkey, tomato and cheese crepes

Both of us feel like someone shoved a nail file down our throats. So instead of coffee or alcohol, we went for some tea. We couldn't stop drinking the tea as it really helped to sooth our throats. Last time we were sick like this, we ended up buying ALL the ice lemon tea from the local shops. After eating, we barely had the energy to do laps. I think we did 1 lap (just so we could check on the $40 woman) before I started getting really bad headspins and had to sit before I passed out.

Somewhere along the way, Moishii had to go back to the apartment to get something, so he left me sitting on a ledge on the streets. Whilst I waited for him, trying not to hurl, this old, possibly homeless guy came and sat next to me. And started talking to me. I had no idea what he was talking about. I don't even think it was Greek. It was as if he was possessed and I was listening to the devil. I quickly made a get away and ran back to the apartment to meet Moishii instead.

After that, we quickly dashed into the nearest store to pick up a few 1L cartons of ice lemon tea and water. Oh, a MASSIVE box of tissues for me because I know I will need it. The only chemist in town is closed for siesta time, which means I can't get any pills until later. We basically headed straight back to the apartment afterwards and passed out again.

I spent the next few hours running a fever and coughing my lungs out. We eventually got up around 9pm because I had to go the chemist. I took all the rest of my pills (I hadn't planned on getting THAT sick) and thought maybe the chemist might be able to give me something.

We got up and barely bothered doing our lap before we hit the chemist. They prescribed some green tablets for me (so pretty!) which I decided to take with our dinner. For dinner, we went back to the same taverna last night as I noticed that they had soup on the menu.

We asked the guy how big their chicken soup was and he said it was a small serve. So we ordered a bowl each plus a main meal thinking we would be able to finish it all:

Holy crap! I could wash my face in that bowl of soup! That bowl is at least 7cm deep! However, it was actually really nice and comforting. It was a chicken broth that had rice in it. It was VERY VERY similar to a chinese congee, except it was much runnier and uses alot of chicken broth. By the time I finished the bowl (Ok, I only got through 2/3s of it) and our main meal came out. I was completely stuffed.

BBQ chicken with roasted potatoes

Baked stuffed tomatoes with baked potatoes

I wanted something light and non-greasy considering I was so sick so I ordered the stuffed tomatoes. However, I forgot that they stuff it with rice mixed with tomato paste. The smell and taste of that just made me nauseous so I couldn't eat any of that. I ended up eating just the potatoes and left most of the tomatoes untouched. The manager even asked me if anything was wrong. I thought it'll be rude to say your food makes me want to hurl, so I just said I was full.

We did a few laps after dinner, just to check on the $40 woman and Scary canary. But after awhile, I started to feel sick again and went back to the apartment where I proceeded to "return" my dinner into the toilet bowl. I don't think it was the food, I actually think it was the green pills they gave me. They were so strong it was making me sick.

I had to lay down for awhile after that, which meant we got to watch Je T'aime. We even managed to get a few photos of the highlight of the night.....

Our 70 biker male star with...

....a 60y.o. grandmother

We eventually got up and went for a walk. As we were heading towards the $40 woman, I decided to walk into this leather shop that we've never been in to. This is when Moishii whips out the camera and starts snapping photos.

The woman started trying to sell me these leather bags that looked like a football with a slit in it. I had to keep leading her on whilst Moishii tried to get a photo. The things I had to do, even when I was sick. And these bags were hideous!

We continued our laps hoping that if we bump into the $40 woman we would feel all better. We'd even settle for Scary Canary. But it wasn't to be. However, I think this woman made Moishii feel a bit better....even if it looks like she's going to spit on him then rip his throat out!!!

We eventually made our way to Scandanavian bar. Not before a few of the bartenders asked us why we're not partying already. And we even bumped into the Horny Italians again who asked us if they'll see us there. So we get into Scandanavian, after pushing through this crowd

Very small turnout tonight

And we immediately get onto the podium. We're becoming a pro at this. At the top of the podium, you can see everyone. And suddenly, the familiar faces in the crowds are giving us smiles and waves cos they recognise us and there is a common understanding/experience between us. This chick was saying hi to me from across the room!

Of course, there was the topless Italian Guys

And for some stupid bizarre reason, this woman decided to wear a hat indoors:

If she wasn't a woman, I would've called her a tosser just by looking at her. Seriously, it looked like she was off to watch the Melbourne cup! Except she didn't have a hat and decided to slap a chessboard on her head instead! And to make things worse, she insisted on squeezing onto the podium right infront/next to me where there was barely any room, and started giving me the dirties when I bumped into her. Well FOR FUCKS SAKE WOMAN, if you don't like being bumped into, DON'T GO CLUBBING! AND DON'T GIVE ME THE DIRTIES WHEN YOU SHOVE YOUR SKANKY ASS NEXT TO ME! *deep breath*

Some of you may think we're insane for going clubbing when we're that sick. Well, firstly, this trip was all about overdosing. We knew we'd get sick, and we had to push through it and go clubbing. We needed to overdose on Mykonos and never go back (How successful my theory is yet to be proven.....but I reckon we can Myth bust that soon.....). Secondly, maybe its the dancing, or the extreme heat inside, I felt FANTASTIC. And no, that wasn't the alcohol talking. OK, I did try to drink a wine, but one sip and I chucked it.

When we left the club, we decided to be smart about things and headed straight to the pita shop.

I especially needed the pita considering my dinner was sitting in a toilet bowl. Strangely enough, this pita made us feel alot better. Didn't stop me feeling sick when I got back to the apartment and continue to toss and turn in a fever though.

Day 26 - Mykonos going downhill

*KNOCK**KNOCK**Click*

WTF? We both tumble out of bed at the sound of an intruder. Its a tangle of bed sheets and bumping into furniture before we realised it was actually the cleaning lady. You see, part of our rental includes a change of bed linen half way through our stay. Now we've been sleeping in til 1-2pm EVERY DAY and the cleaning woman doesn't come until after we leave. However, she chose TODAY of all days to come at 11am. FFS Woman! We didn't get into bed until 6:30am!!!! LIKE WTF??????? ARGH!!!

We get semi decently dressed before she comes storming in and starts changing our bed sheets. With no where to stand without looking like we're staring at her, there was only one place to retreat to. The balcony. We throw open the balcony doors and suddenly we're blinded. No, I'm serious. I can't see a frickin thing! No only were we rudely awaken (actually, I'm pretty sure I was still sleep walking), we were forced onto the balcony during the blazing Greek sun. To make things worse, ALL the builds in Mykonos was white. ALL OF THEM. It was like I was in heaven, staring into the glorious light of God right before he struck me down with a can of whoop ass!!! We were standing on the balcony, with our eyes squinted until there was a slit of 1mm wide and I can't see a thing. Even when I squint, I can't see my fingers infront of my face. It was THAT blinding.

Also, the woman was making our beds. She wasn't just changing the sheets. SHE WAS MAKING OUR BEDS!!! We were tempted to tell her not to, but at that moment, I couldn't barely see, let alone speak in Greek. We just stood in the sun, letting the lights burn a hole in my cornea whilst she tucked my blankets under the mattress. 15mins later, she was done and out of there. The minute we closed the door behind her, we slammed the balcony door shut and immediately ripped all the sheets out and jumped back into bed.

When we finally got out of bed, which was less than 1.5hrs later because we couldn't sleep now that she woke us up, we went to search for breakfast. However, there was one minor problem. I couldn't get down the stairs. My knees were completely FARKED UP from last night. They had completely locked up and I couldn't bend my knees to get down the stairs. Crap. Is this what old age does to you? It took me a whole minute to get down the flight of stairs. OUCH!

For breakfast, we decided on a crepe place about 2mins walk from our apartment. This was the same crepe place that Moishii was in, when I got picked up at the super market by an 80yo guy. We walk in and immediately place our orders (not without alot of fuss) and the woman begins to make our crepe.

Suddenly the lights go out. Great. Its a blackout. TRUST US TO GET STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF A BLACKOUT!! So now we're in a dilemma. She's started making our crepes, but they weren't really ready. She told everyone else that she can't make anything for them, but out order was half cooked. But with no electricity, that also meant no coffee. Well screw this. We ran outta there and down the street. When we got our breath back, we decided to hit the Gyros places as their stove is gas and they're still cooking away. Excellent start to the day. A nice greasy pita roll:

As we're sitting at the table finishing our pita rolls off, this van comes tearing down the street past us and then comes to a screeching halt. Next thing you know, he's reversing at full speed straight towards us! I practically dropped the plate when I jumped up to stop getting run over.

FFS! I can't even eat in peace! We decided to leave before something else happened. As we're walking, suddenly this massive piece of material practically engulfed us! I had to do a quick dodge!

SOMEONE thought it would be a great idea to show off their table cloths or something. SOMEONE LIKE THIS WOMAN WAS THROWING TABLE CLOTHS OUT OF HER WINDOW!!!

We storm off, not before checking on the $40 woman again. No luck. We decided that we should actually explore a bit more of the island today and take a few photos instead of walking our usual lap. Well, we were still doing our lap, just not as much.

The power had also come back at this stage. Moishii decided he severely needed a haircut whilst I needed a dose of the good old interweb. So he went to the hairdresser whilst I hit the netcafe a few doors down. 10mins later he rocks up with his hair completely shorn off. *blink***Blink* God.....I've never seen Moishii looking like a monk before. But I had more important things at hand. The internet! God I miss the internet. I'm really starting to get my fix when *ZAAAAP*

.......

There was another blackout......F*CKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!! ARGH!!!!!! $#%^#$ *Sigh* Alright, so we paid for whatever we thought we used and left the place. We found ourselves back at Mex Cafe to order our wine. (We couldn't get coffee because they couldn't boil anything!) I don't know what the waitresses problem is, but all she can do is give me a look of disgust. Its like she hates tourists. She smiles at the locals, but the minute she sees us, its like we killed her family or something.

Our 5pm drink

The great thing about Mex Cafe is that their alcohol is cheap, their coffee is fantastic AND its a parade of freaks going past every minute. So now we introduce Mex Cafe Christine!!

So now we have Local Christine that sits outside our apartment glaring at us day in day out, and Mex Cafe Christine that parades up and down the streets like a catwalk! Seriously, after a glass of wine, everything is funny. We finally got up and did another lap to check on the $40 woman. We also popped into Scary Canary's shop for a visit before Moishii spotted a henna tattoo place. Suddenly he wants a tattoo. It was partly the wine and partly the 2kg of nutella he scoffed down in his crepes. Suddenly, he has a tattoo:

We called it quits around 6:30pm and headed off to bed. God I needed sleep badly. When we woke up around 9:30, I could feel my throat starting to close up. God.....I know this feeling. This is the Mykonos 3 day curse!!!!! EVERY TIME we've been to Mykonos, after the first 3 party filled days, I get sick. Last time I got sick, I ended up drinking entire bottles of medication in 2 days all throughout the trip and about a month after I got home. I immediately pulled out my cold and flu tablets and started popping them like tic tacs. Moishii, also did the same.

All drugged up, we head back into town to check on the $40 woman. We decided to go a taverna we went to the first night we came to Mykonos in 2004.

Tzatziki

Bread

Keftedes - Greek meatballs with rice and chips

Moussaka

We went for coke instead of alcohol! *SHOCK**HORROR*

Double Greek Coffee for me

Finishing dinner, we did our usual laps which included the $40 woman and Scary Canary. Except we saw Scary Canary storm off home for dinner. After catching Je T'aime and filling up our alcohol bottles, we wandered around a bit, including past Scandanavian bar. It was still early so we wanted to walk around a bit more. Suddenly, one of the bar tenders walked up to me and asked how come we weren't going in yet? OMG...even the STAFF recognises us now! This is embarrassing! We promised we would be back and we kept that promise.

After walking for another 30mins, we headed back to Scandanavian bar and stopped by the bar downstairs for a shot of B-52. Now the first year we came to Mykonos, we started the night off with some B-52s. We've never had them until that point, and when we did, GOD it was good!! B-52 then became our Mykonos drink. After downing the shots, we were back upstairs partying.

B-52s

We immediately shoved our way onto the podium. It was so great getting onto the podium. There was no excuse for the guys to grope you every time they walked by. The number of times I had a guy rub his butt against mine is just too disturbing. I loved the podium and I wasn't getting down! We even bumped into some of the other podium guys from last night!

By the time the party was really rocking, I was starting to feel the affects of the entire bottle of vodka I had downed. Not because I am an alcoholic. OK, I'm an alcoholic, but I was also severly dehydrated. Not wanting to lose my podium spot, I decided to down my vodka rather than go get a drink. (It made sense in my head...) By about 4am, I was trashed. Alchol and tablets don't really mix. By this stage, my legs were going to snap off and I could barely stand straight. I told Moishii I was trashed. So instead of taking me home, we did a pit stop at the bar downstairs for another shot of B-52 before we could go home.

We also skipped our nightly Pita roll. Bad idea. I had my head in the toilet within half an hour. OK......no more alcohol and tablets....
