Executive aye?
So I was supposed to have my yearly Performance Appraisal today where you sit around and talk about what you've done in the past 6-12months and what your goals are for the next 6-12months. Well that didn't happen. Mainly because we're having a slight "restructure" in our department. Well, its not really a "restructure". More of a clarification of existing job roles and positions. Strangely enough, in our area, we don't have levels of seniority amongst the staff. I mean, you have the Managers, Senior Managers, Associate Directors etc etc which is all great, but there are sooooooo many different types of "levels", and then theres the little pawns like us. Who is at a higher level than the other?
For me, theres "Test Analyst", which is me, and "Test Manager", which is my Manager. That's it. No "Senior Test Analyst" or "Assistant Test Manager" or anything like that. So what they've decided to do is to let everyone keep their job title ("Test Analyst" for me) but assigned them a "Level" which will be consistent across all departments. This is basically because people didn't know if they were getting promoted, or demoted if they moved to another area. What we call a junior in our area, could be a senior in another etc etc.
So my Manager and her Manager pulled me into a room today to basically tell me what "Level" they have classified me under so I can prepare for my appraisal accordingly. Apparently, I'm at an "Executive" Level. One level down from "Manager"! MUAhaUahaUAhaU I was actually expecting to be AT LEAST 1, if not 2 levels below that. Fancy that aye!
This basically means that if I was to be promoted, I would be a "Manager". Which means I'll be going after my Manager's job! Although I did make it clear from the very beginning that I was after her job. When they asked me where did I see myself in 5 years time, I said "I would see myself in your position". Not sure if it was a good idea, but hey, I got the job!
So now that I know I'm an "Executive", I know how to negotiate when it comes to my appraisal and fingers crossed when it comes to the bonus. Little things like this does wonders for my ego. Hehehehe
