Bloody Hell

I started giving blood in 3rd year of uni. When I graduated and started working at Crows Nest, there was never a blood bank anywhere near there. So after a 3 year break, earlier this year I found out that our company organises for the blood bank to come to our office and set up in our meeting rooms. So again, I signed up to be a blood donor again. I was scared because it had been a good 3 years and I couldn't remember exactly what was involved. I only remember the first time I gave blood, I ended up in the toilet throwing up and almost passing out.

Despite all that, it all went well. No nausea, no head spins, no mofo large bruises on my arm, and minimum pain. So a few weeks ago, we got an All-Staff email saying that the blood bank would be back. Without hesitating, I booked myself in. I walk in less than an hour ago and spot this guy in there. At first I thought I walked into the wrong room. I thought it was a room for geeks to get together. When I realised that the guy I saw, was actually one of the nurses, I suddenly had an image of those psychotic doctors who slaughter patients with blood splattering everywhere. (Yes I have an overact imagination).

I spotted the lady who helped me last time and felt calmer at knowing that he's not the ONLY one there. I get on the table and a lady comes up to me and starts prepping me. She tells me theres someone finishing up and she'll be right back. No problem! She leaves and freaky guy steps up. Oh Crap. "Can't be that bad.....he's a trained professional" I tried telling myself, but it didn't help. I think it had something to do with his appearence. He is one of those really nerdy looking freaky guys, wearing protective goggles (The ONLY one with protective goggles) and he's eyes seem unfocused. But still, he's a TRAINED PROFESSIONAL.

I kept telling myself that, even when he jammed the thick ass needle into my arm. I still tried to convince myself everything was fine when he started jiggling the needle around non-stop. HE even tried to convince me everything was all good...he just had to get the needle in at the "right angle". More jiggling of the needle.....I was to the point where I was about to start yelling at him when he taped the needle down. Oh thank god! That means the needle is in the right place and there shouldn't be any more excrutiating pain when he jiggles the needle. Wrong. He taped the needle down and started jiggling some more, which meant the tape was tugging at the skin around the needle hole. OMFG I was on the edge of yelling when he suddenly went "Oh, theres a big bump on your arm where the needle is, I'm going to have to pull the needle out".

"Big bump"? Wtf? Clot? Rupture? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? Apparently, he managed to jab the needle right through my vein which was why he wasn't getting any blood which was why he had to do all the needle jiggling. No amount of jiggling is going to get you any blood considering you punctured my vein...and shoving the needle in DEEPER isn't going to help either!!! He offered to have SOMEONE ELSE look at my other arm and give that vein ago. Hell NO. I'm already going to get a huge arse bruise on my arm (And not a good look considering I have a wedding to go to this weekend), I'm not going to risk having a bruise on BOTH arms so I look like a druggie!

Thanks to the freaky, nervous cross-eyed guy, I don't think I would be signing up for the next blood donation any time soon. I need time off.....to forget the excrutiating pain and trauma. Maybe 3 years.....

You know how i use to get daily INR blood checks cos of the blood clot in my leg (after i broke my ankle)??? The lady wouldnt even dare try to jiggle or stab me more than twice - delicately...once in each arm...cos she said it would be TOO MUCH TRAUMA on a patient.

That guy was obviously a dumb fark...he isnt suppose to jiggle, that causes blood clots under your skin and its painful. He is suppose to feel for the vein, make sure he finds it, then give you a jab and pull it out from your arm if he fails!

Use that cream for bruises you recommended me...cant remember how to spell it "Heuredoid?"

I hope it isnt too painful today!

Yeh the cream seems to have helped. The bruise is big, like 2x50c coins, but its not BLACK.....atleast not yet. And I can move my arm again :D
